The Question:

I AM 272LBS 6FT TALL AND I HAVE A GOOD SIZE BELLY.I HAVE SEEN IN THE MAGAZINES THAT YOU MUST EAT MORE CALORES THEN YOU USE IN A DAY TO GAIN MUSCLE. HOW DO I DO THIS AND STILL DROP BODY FAT?

The Answer:

For optimal results, you do need to prioritize your goals. By this I mean that if you really want to lose body fat and only "sort of" want to get more muscular then you must make the dieting and cardio become your major goal. The reverse is also true, if you really want to gain muscle and get stronger and only "sort of" want to lose weight then you must train aggressively and not diet so much as to hinder your recovery process between the brutal training sessions. However, and this is very important, if you are just getting started on a strength training program you will gain muscle and strength even when you are reducing your calories or "dieting". Now, you don't want to totally starve yourself but you can still be pretty aggressive with your dieting and make great gains in the weight room. Check out the nutrition section of our web page at: http://www.fitrex.com/nutrition.shtml (check the pulldown menu in the header at the top right of every page.) A quality diet, strength program, and a little bit of cardiovascular work every day is actually the best way to go for changing your body into a leaner, stronger you!
